Our objective at the UGA Marine Extension and Georgia Sea Grant Coastal Ecology Lab is to contribute to the persistence of healthy native ecosystems and their resident wildlife populations. The lab specializes in applied research and translational ecology to grow the information needed for interdisciplinary and community-based planning so that we can be more confident in our management of altered landscapes and responses to changing environmental and social conditions. We extend our ecological and social explorations to progress the field of applied conservation through:
-
Ecological research on the health and behaviors of wildlife in altered and changing ecosystems;
-
Planning and management of built infrastructure where it interfaces with natural habitats for increased resiliency to changing climates and for societal needs;
-
Community engagement and partnership building for meaningful and effective relationships and the development of realistic and accessible solutions to environmental problems that accommodate a diversity of needs and traditions.
We are part of the University of Georgia's Marine Extension and Georgia Sea Grant program located in Brunswick, Georgia. Our research takes place primarily in the coastal and coastal plain regions of Georgia and reaches into the southern Pacific region of Costa Rica. This lab exists because of the collaborations, partnerships and generous sponsors and funders that support our research.
