Cannon’s Point Preserve located on St. Simon’s Island, Georgia acts as a replicate site for our work looking at the terrestrial wildlife community that uses the salt marsh-maritime forest ecotone. This 600-acre site has been owned and managed by the St. Simon’s Land Trust since 2012 as a preserve for coastal habitats and wildlife in Georgia. Additionally, the site is periodically open to the public for hiking along fire breaks and trails. Cannon’s Point Preserve is characterized by large amounts of maritime forest surrounded by extensive salt marsh. The vast amount of edge habitat onsite allows us to study the importance of the salt marsh to terrestrial wildlife for movement and foraging.
